Partition and lining thicknesses

In the French designation, the first number is already the finished thickness. A 98/48 is 98 millimetres, not 48.

These thicknesses matter in takeoff because they come off the usable area. On a floor plate split into small offices, the difference between a 72 and a 98 amounts to square metres lost, and shows up in the lease. The second number is the stud size; it drives acoustic performance and services routing.

Finished thicknesses excluding skim coat and floor covering. A system with enhanced acoustic or fire performance can fall outside these values: the manufacturer's technical approval governs.

Frequently asked questions

Are partitions deducted from the habitable area?

Yes. Both the habitable area and the Carrez area are computed after deducting walls and partitions. That is exactly why the chosen thickness has a direct effect on the declared area.

How do you take off partitions from a PDF drawing?

By measuring the run, not the area: a partition is ordered as linear metres times height, with two faces to board. FloorScan separates load-bearing walls from partitions and outputs both runs distinctly.
