Free Countfire: counting, and what it does not cover
Very strong at counting sockets, light fittings or sprinklers. Much less so at producing floor areas and partition lengths.
Is it actually free?
Countfire publishes no self-serve free tier: you go through a demo then a subscription. It is an automatic symbol counter, excellent on electrical and mechanical packages, and deliberately narrow. For an area takeoff you need a second tool anyway.
What is genuinely free
- The free demo, by appointment, on your own plans if you ask.
- A supervised trial, negotiated, usually short.
- Public resources on the counting method, useful whichever tool you end up choosing.
Where it stops
Nothing switches on by itself from the website, and the scope stays counting. A full pricing exercise also needs floor areas, wall developments and joinery, which fall outside the tool's field.

Can you combine counting and area takeoff?
