Two ways into Revit, depending on how you work

Dropping a plan straight into Revit gives you an image: nothing to snap to, a scale to guess, walls to retrace by measuring every dimension. FloorScan turns the source into geometry first. Load-bearing walls and partitions become closed polylines, doors and windows become blocks placed on their wall, rooms become named and measured outlines, each family on its own layer. Linked in Revit (Insert, then Link CAD), this DXF becomes an accurate underlay the Wall tool snaps to.

If your BIM brief calls for a model rather than an underlay, the same survey also comes out as IFC4: IfcWall walls typed bearing or partition, openings that genuinely void the wall, IfcSpace rooms with their quantities. Revit opens it through IFC import and you get objects, not lines. Either way the scale is guaranteed, the file comes out in real metres, and the room schedule in Excel feeds your Revit schedules while the structured JSON feeds your Dynamo scripts if you industrialise wall creation.

Does FloorScan produce a native .rvt file?

No. The .rvt format is closed and tied to each Revit version. FloorScan delivers the two best intermediates: a semantic DXF at exact scale that Revit links natively, and an IFC4 model Revit imports as objects. The geometry comes from FloorScan, the BIM objects stay created with your own templates and families.

How exactly do I link the DXF in Revit?

Insert, Link CAD, pick the FloorScan DXF, units set to metre, positioning Origin to origin, import at 1:1. The plan lands at exact scale on the active level. Prefer Link over Import: the file stays light and replaceable if you re-export a corrected version from FloorScan.

Will a scanned plan with no dimensions land at the right scale in Revit?

Yes, provided you reset the scale in FloorScan before exporting: enter the known total floor area, or calibrate on a known distance in two clicks. The file then comes out in real metres and Revit shows it correctly. Quick check after linking: measure a door, it should be around 0.90 m.
