A bill of quantities always starts with the same lost hour
Open a spreadsheet, recreate the trades, dig up the wording of the last tender, retype the areas, check the units line up: this work comes before the pricing itself and adds nothing to the project. Yet it is redone on every job, almost identically.
The bill of quantities module starts from the analyzed plan and builds the nine trades directly, with quantified lines, their unit and an indicative price you replace. You start where the work gets interesting: arbitrating prices, adjusting doubtful quantities, adding the lines specific to the job.

Generated bill of quantities questions
Is the trade structure imposed?
No, it is proposed. You delete out-of-scope trades, rename headings, move lines around. The default structure follows a classic renovation layout because you have to start somewhere.
Where do the quantities come from?
From the measurements taken on the plan: floor areas per room and per use, partition linears, opening counts, paint faces. Each item shows its unit, which lets you trace back to the original measurement.
Can I use it to consult contractors?
Yes, by emptying the price column and leaving only the quantities: every contractor prices the same basis and the bids become comparable line by line. That is the most common use of the module on the design side.
