Sections and construction nodes

Draw a dimensioned construction detail, to scale

Wall-to-slab junction, window sill, wall base, parapet: draw the section in real millimetres, hatch every layer with the right material and number the legend. The drawing stays vector and editable.

A construction node in three steps

  1. 1

    Lay the layers

Each layer is a rectangle or a polygon in real millimetres: slab, insulation, render, air gap. One material per layer, picked from the standard list.

  2. 2

    Dimension and mark

Horizontal and vertical dimensions pre-filled at true size, numbered markers linked to the legend, leaders, level marks, section marks.

  3. 3

    Review and export

Zoom on the sensitive area, add a detail window at a larger scale if needed, then export to SVG or 300 dpi PNG for the specification or the method sheet.

Why draw the detail here

The right hatch first time

Concrete, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber in section, insulation, soil, steel, render: seventeen standard symbols, not a bitmap texture to line up.

Dimensions that follow the drawing

Move a layer and its dimensions realign. The displayed value is the model's, in millimetres, never text retyped by hand.

Several scales on one sheet

An overview at 1:20 and a detail window at 1:5, clipped by computation so it stays readable in every SVG viewer.

A legend that holds together

Adding, renaming or reordering a legend line renumbers the markers on the drawing. Deleting a line clears its markers.

Common details

  • Wall-to-slab junction with thermal break
  • Window sill and lintel
  • Wall base and waterproofing upstand
  • External insulation to joinery junction
  • Accessible door threshold
  • Parapet and coping

Frequently asked questions

Which unit do I draw in?

Real millimetres, inside a view at the scale of your choice. The sheet is in paper millimetres. The editor converts between the two, nothing to compute.

Can I change the scale afterwards?

Yes. The scale belongs to the view, not to the elements: changing it redraws every layer and dimension of that view without touching the values.

How do I show insulation?

Set the Insulation material on the layer, then pick the style for the sheet (loops, waves, crosses, zigzag, hatching, blanket) or for that element only.

Does the file open in AutoCAD?

The SVG export opens in most drawing software and converts to DXF with the usual tools. The editor does not write DWG: for a complete plan in DWG, use FloorScan plan analysis.

A clear detail avoids a snag at handover

Draw the section, hatch the layers, export the sheet.
