AI floor plan layout: rearrange the plan you already have
FloorScan reads your floor plan (walls, partitions, rooms and areas), then AI proposes two or three alternative layouts built from what is already there. Every option is simulated on a copy of the plan, with its room areas, before you decide to apply it.

How AI rearranges an existing floor plan
- 1
Upload a plan or open a project
Drop a PDF, PNG, JPG or WebP, or start from a project already saved in FloorScan. AI detection picks up walls, partitions, doors, windows and rooms with their areas, and the scale is set.
- 2
Get 2 or 3 layout options
Claude, Anthropic's AI model, reads the detected walls and rooms, looks at the plan image and proposes new layouts. Add an optional brief in plain words, such as "open the kitchen onto the living room" or "one more bedroom".
- 3
Compare, apply, keep going
Each option shows a preview, the room list with areas and the habitable area. "Apply" changes the plan in a single undoable step (Ctrl+Z), and you carry on in the FloorScan editor.
What the AI can change in your layout, and what it leaves alone
Merge two rooms
An option can remove the thin partition between two rooms to join them, the classic move for an open-plan kitchen and living room.
Split a room
A large room can be cut in two, horizontally or vertically: an extra bedroom, or a home office carved out of a big bedroom.
Reassign room types
Room types can be renamed (a bedroom becomes a study, for example), and the option's room list updates with them.
Exterior walls untouched
Exterior and thick walls are never moved or removed. Proposals only work on thin interior partitions.
AI proposes, code checks
FloorScan's own geometry code simulates every option on a copy of your plan before you see it. If an operation cannot be done, a warning tells you.
Options you can actually compare
Preview, rooms, areas and habitable area for every option, so you compare numbers, not just pictures. "Render" adds a clean architectural image you can download as PNG.

AI floor plan layout: frequently asked questions
Is this a floor plan generator that starts from a blank page?
No. The AI starts from your existing plan, as detected by FloorScan, and proposes changes to it: merging rooms, splitting a room, changing what a room is used for. The exterior walls and thick walls stay where they are.
Does the AI know whether a wall is load-bearing?
No. It never touches exterior or thick walls, but it cannot tell whether a partition is load-bearing. Every change must be checked by a professional (architect, structural engineer) before any works.
Can I steer the proposals?
Yes, with an optional brief in everyday language, such as "one more bedroom" or "an open kitchen onto the living room". If none of the options fits, ask for new ones.
What happens when I apply an option?
The plan is changed in one step that you can undo with Ctrl+Z. Rooms, areas and openings are recalculated, then you continue in the editor: quantity take-off, 3D view, PDF and Excel exports with Essential, DXF, DWG and IFC with Pro.
Which plan do I need?
The module is included in the Essential, Pro and Business plans, with a 14-day free trial. Each request for options and each render counts toward the monthly AI credits included in your plan. It runs in the browser, with no install, in 8 languages and in metric or imperial units.
